churchill's pub
yesterday at Churchill's pub, on an undeveloped stretch outside of the Design District that might still be called Little Haiti, a bunch of fourteen year old sand Nirvana songs wearing Led Zepplin t-shirts, Converse, and jean capris. My mom was singing along to some emo song that went "Won't somebody please get my up off the floor," (come to think of it, maybe they didn't say please). My dad was ranting about how this is a rugby team hang out and that there are usually topless rugby hoes there. In the corners there were some guys with Shirley Temple locks drinking beer out of pitchers and painting gorillas over UPS stickers.
Some things never change, and Churchill's certainly hasn't. Since 1979 Churchill's has been a staple on the Miami live music music scene and it's not fourteen year olds everyday, but its diversity is part of the charm. Monday nights are jazz nights, Wednesday nights are open mic, and I'm using context clues here, but I think there's a harpist act on Thursdays.
Check out Churchill's website for a calendar, or just drop by any night for a live music surprise.
