Hot Day Foods: A Full Dinner Party Menu
Some people can make a bunch of food that’s beautiful and take pictures of it looking perfect. I can make a menu of food people want to eat, make a mess and then not photograph some stuff because I kind of burnt the corn but it tastes better like that.
It should be said that we cooked everything on this menu in about an hour and a half - and that it’s meant to assemble and eat along the way. Everything is cold or room temp, so if you wanted to, you could serve it all at once or whatever, but then you have to start playing Tetris in your fridge to make it all fit. Another side - everything can be made in advance if you don’t want to be cooking with people over. I wouldn’t do that with the BLT, but you can cook the bacon and then just let everyone make their own sandwiches, like a BLT bar.
Here is the full menu of Hot Day Foods, including the stuff we ate and didn’t shoot because it looked weird or we got too drunk (one too many Miller High Life with Aperol, perhaps?).
shrimp cocktail
gazpacho
melon, mint, feta and cucumber salad
BLT
classic Italian pasta salad
baby gem salad with butter lettuce
orange torta and merengue
serve with rosé and Miller High Life with a splash of Aperol
