the early bird catches the chocolate babka at madruga bakery

at Madruga Bakery, they're doing way more work than they have to. I'm not saying it doesn't pay off, you can taste it in the chocolate babka - really in any of their baked goods, made with freshly milled flour - but with space this pretty, I'd go there to eat a frozen pizza.

Luckily, I don't have to. The menu is exactly, and I mean exactly, what Coral Gables, and the Miami burbs at large, has long been missing. We've long needed a nice cafe, with light salads, like the fennel one on the Madruga menu, take out treats - I repeat, the chocolate babka - and nice toasts and sandwiches served alongside coffee.

Hopefully, Madruga Bakery is just the first project from Naomi Harris, the daughter of the family behind Pollo Tropical (seriously, could the vibe be any cooler?) and don't forget, get to Madruga early to snag a loaf of chocolate babka.
