tapaceria raca, the eating house boys grow up
from the stoner Miami boys that brought you Eating House, comes Tapaceria Raca, a little patio serving fresh tapas on Biscayne and 70th.
When I took my parents to Eating House, my dad had a strange reaction, he felt, how I'd hope he'd feel - proud. It was like the work of Miami Nice had been encapsulated into one dinner. There we were, on Calle Ocho and Ponce, in a space that had long been dead and recently renewed its pop up lease to transition into a more permanent space, we ate bone marrow and lots of meat and cups of dirt (my all time favorite desert). We were served Jojo Tea and the waiters wore Eating House and All Bout Trees collaboration shirts - two friend companies of Miami Nice. And what was really wonderful, was that my dad got it, like, he got it, he got why this was cool and why it was reflective of Miami and what was special about the space. He got it so much he asked if the owners or chef were there to congratulate them on being so Miami in the best way possible. He was proud of the Eating House guys, who he doesn't know, he was proud of the new Miami food scene and I was proud of Miami.
A few years later, those same guys have moved on and opened a new space (not that Eating House is closed, luckily, it's still there serving up just as delicious food - but a girl can only eat so much fried food and meat-heavy dishes), up where the cool kids are on Biscayne.
It was all the same things I loved about Eating House, a reverence for the kind of food that Miami people like, in this case tapas, but they've grown up. This is a more sophisticated, a more pared back project than the gluttonous, munchies vibe of Eating House (um... Cap' N Crunch pancakes).
The menu is fresh and sophisticated, but it's fun and delicious and the presentation is stellar. It's tapas style, made to share, so go with friends and go wild. Order a Spanish white - it's too hot for a red outdoors - and save room for dessert. While I can't eat at Eating House all the time, even though it's just down the street from me, I'll be making the drive up to Tapaceria Raca all the time.
