an asia thai kitchen in a kwik stop on grand ave
i'm always rooting for a restaurant in a gas station/convenience store. Asia Thai Kitchen is my latest find in my favorite burgeoning genre.
It's not only in Miami that you'll find delicious homestyle restaurants tucked away in unlikely places, If you've seen Jiro Dreams of Sushi ( a movie I've taken to referencing at least once a week, it really left a lasting impression) you know that some of the world's best reviewed restaurants are in unsual places. Personally, I've enjoyed Brazilian food from a gas station in Martha's Vineyard, tapas at El Carajo, a restaurant in a convenience store, in a gas station on 17th and US1, and tacos from a gas station in Homestead, and the proximity to six packs, rolling papers, and Arizona iced tea makes it all taste better.
Asia Thai Kitchen is perhaps the best Thai kitchen around and it's inside the Kwik Stop, right next to The Last Carrot, on Grand Avenue in The Grove.
If you live in the area (they deliver into the Gables too) we can bet that it's about to make it into your regular delivery rotation if it isn't already. The menu is, as is typical, pretty long. They serve curries, noodle dishes, a really nice ginger duck and all the things you'd expect on a Thai restaurant menu - yes, the pad thai is up to par, Try the Tiger Tear Salad and the Green Curry too.
What's unusual about Asia Thai Kitchen, especially considering the seemingly straightforward name, is they serve a few Peruvian dishes too. If you've always wanted some ceviche on the side of your Pad See Ew, now's your big chance.
