wayside market
way, way back in 2010 (hard to believe this little baby blog has been around longer than Instagram or Inception) we wrote a bit about the Wayside Market. Four years later and I feel just as strongly about that strawberry shake.
In fact, four years later, I'll never again make the mistake of ordering a smoothie there, because I now know that's more like a slushy banana water than a smoothie, and I will never every diverge from the ultimate strawberry shake. Made with yogurt! Nowadays, they'll raise an eyebrow at you when you ask for it, but they'll make you a wheatgrass shot to take down with your shake as a chaser.
The selection at Wayside Market, an outdoor fruit stand and market just off of 57th Avenue in Pinecrest, has only gotten better as the years go by and the South Florida organic and local food scene has developed. They carry local produce, seasonal tropical fruits and vegetables, pre-made salads (get the curry chicken!), jams, sauces, baked goods and an assortment of unusual locally sourced artisanal products. Think: cold gazpacho in the beverage refrigerator packaged like a lemonade or iced tea.
Take a seat at a picnic table and eavesdrop on the kids form the nearby schools gossiping at this after-school snack shack.
Psssstt - take a little stroll over to the next door Hirni's flower shop with your strawberry shake.
