gourmet writer thinks she invents pastelitos de guayaba

dear food historians, people of Miami, Cubans and pastry connoisseurs, Gourmet Test Kitchen and Ruth Cousineau, 

In 2009 a Gourmet magazine writer named Ruth Cousineau (boy oh boy do I hope she has a Google alert set on her name) "conceived of this pastry as a dessert, but it would also make a decadent breakfast treat."

Ruth, you're a genius, but you're quite a few years late. If you're savvy enough to put a Google alert on your name you should have been savvy enough to do a quick Google (in case you're wondering, 

here's what comes up when you Google "guava and cream cheese pastry, on the first page of search hits there's mention of Cuban origins

) and see that this is just the pride and joy of the Cuban community that you're claiming to invent. It's not so much that it isn't credited as a Cuban treat, because we're pretty sure that versions of this treat have trickled down to the lowest of low pastries, the toaster pastry, but that it's claimed to be "conceived" by this Ruth character. 

Like any good muckraking blogger, I'd like to formally complain to basically no one about this major lack of fact-checking and request an apology to the community at large. Yeah, Ruth, it's that serious.
