broken shaker is anything but broken
if you're just going to order a rum and Coke, we don't recommend you go to The Broken Shaker. Sure, the ambiance is great, located inside the old, kind of musty, but infinitely charming, Indian Creek Hotel, off the neon lit streets of busy Miami Beach, and tucked away on a quiet corner, it hosts a tiki hut, a ping pong table, a pool and charming tables and chair area. Oh, and there's the bar itself, the crafted, old time-y, apothecary style hole in the wall. But this is no place for rums and cokes.
The Broken shaker is a pop up bar by Bar Lab a cocktail catering company that truly deserve the buzz word "mixologists."
You only have till the end of the month to cozy up to the bar and choose from one of the handful of signature cocktails or, we recommend, that you just give the skilled bar backs an idea of what you want. Like tequila? Whiskey? Sweet? Sour? Fruity, floral or herby. Using their arsenal of house made bitters and herbs, juices and mixers of all kinds, they really craft your craft cocktail. The tricks in their bag are endless; a vaporized smoke to infuse flavor in the glass, a pineapple on fire, a grape on a toothpick as garnish, giant ice cubes; fresh herbs picked right in front of you.
The Broken Shaker is in the vein of New York's famed PDT, whose cookbook is on display on the bar, giving a nice little nod to the fore bearer of the mixology movement. It's nice to finally see this reach Miami in a strong and knowledgable way. This is a place where people like to drink and party afterall, so why drink a delicious lavender infused vodka instead of a nasty club mix of generic brand orange or cranberry.
