#queclasetipa: Cristy and Duda of WCP
Christy and Duda of
a local fashion/lifestyle blog have sparked a Miami girl bandwagon phenomenon with their DIY cutoff studded, dyed and distressed booty shorts. What could be more Miami? We'll let them tell you...
What’s good We Can Pretend girls? We know each other in “real life” so there’s a little bit of cheating in this interview, but for now, let’s stick with the pretending theme and we can pretend we don’t know each other. Who are you and what do you do?
We’re just two girls from Miami that have always had an interest in fashion. We’ve been best friends for years so throughout our time growing up together we’ve focused on our main similarity: our love of clothes. Aside from being your average college student’s
we run a blog we started two years ago on anything and everything that interests us.
So, the two of you run your blog We Can Pretend… together, how do you balance that? Is it a bit like being in a blog relationship? are there fights? is it juicy?
Unfortunately there’s no ‘chisme’ on juicy fights or disagreements because we’ve honestly never had one.
Our blog relationship is like a business partnership, if we don’t agree on something we compromise.
Your blog is a blend of your WCP Vintage shorts that you guys DIY and sell in local boutiques, collections of images, and a fashion blog diary of your outfits. What would you call all that put together? And what would you call your general aesthetic?
We want to say it’s more like a lifestyle blog but at the end of the day almost all our content is something fashion oriented. We’re inspired by so many things and have
a shared love for high fashion and vintage. A college budget can only get you so far so a lot of the time we make what we see and like.
Our style is always described as edgy with boho vibes and we enjoy incorporating that into our DIY projects and daily outfits.
Tell me more about the shorts…
Do your fingers bleed from making them? It looks like a painful process
What’s nice in Miami right now?
As dramatic as it sounds there’s definitely been blood shed, mixed in with a ton of sweat. Each pair is one of a kind and completely hand made so start to finish is a time consuming process. We work with a lot of sharp objects and strong chemicals but we know what we’re doing. It’s a tedious job but it’s pure creativity and nothing beats watching someone walk down the street in something you made yourself.
Let’s get back to Miami, do you guys rep the 305? Prove it.
Living here permanently for 21 years also proves we have an addiction to this city.
It’s hard to imagine us any place else where the sun doesn’t shine 364 days a year. Like the locals say, “we live where you vacation”.
Most of (right?) your pictures are in Miami, do you have a bucket list of places that you want to shoot but haven’t gotten around to yet? Anywhere you would most definitely avoid?
It’s an organic blog so a quick snap before heading out is as glamorous as it gets. It’s hard to think of a place we’d avoid taking photo’s but we’d probably steer clear of places like the Marine Stadium or the beach since it’s so cliché.
So, about Miami, real Miami, like Miami private high school style. What would you say are the biggest pros and cons about living here?
Ha! What a great question.
Life here is close in comparison to your grandmother’s favorite novela.
Pros: There are connections everywhere you turn –(and everyone has a boat). Cons: Extreme flashiness and judgmental people.
Where are your favorite places to shop, most importantly where are your favorite secret places to shop?
We’re big on thrift shopping so any Goodwill or Salvation Army holds enough treasures for us. Other favorites are Zara, LF and Urban Outfitters. Our secret spot:
Favorite place to people watch?
GreenStreet. Never fails when it comes to people watching, especially those you know.
Coffee is another great watch spot for interesting people, but if you’re looking for the typical Miami person you’re going to be disappointed.
Best hole-in-the-wall to grab a bite? Drink?
Zucchero. Best pasta and white wine sangrias you’ve ever had.
Any Miamians you find particularly stylish?
Theres a ton, but to name a few: Juliana Salazar, Christina Garcia, Sydney Straus and Mika Diaz.
How do you think Miami fits into the fashionscape trendwise? And what do you think is going to be the next big thing here?
We once read a joke that it’s only acceptable in Miami to wear a fur vest over a bikini.
Anything else you wanna get off your (very fashionable) chest?
Dale!
