yardbird, run chicken run there

yardbird isn't really news. Everyone has been talking for months about the fried chicken, the biscuits, the bourbon bar and Jeff McInnis. Sometimes in Miami, there's a lot of buzz and it's just that, a lot of buzz, a bandwagon city droning on in acronyms and gossiping about somewhere that frankly, isn't all that nice.
Yardbird isn't that kind of place. Well situated in South Beach it's the type of place that should be flooding South Beach the Tourist Paradise. The food is great, the decor chic, inviting and clever, and the service smart. I mean, we're talking about the brains behind
and you can tell that they're two restaurants cut from the same cloth, literally, I'm pretty sure the napkins are the same cloth.
It didn't take much convincing for us to order the Mama's Chicken Biscuits, it seems like an obvious choice, and a way to try the fried chicken and the biscuits at once- what I mean is it seemed like the fat, indulgent man's obvious choice- so obviously mine. Notice that there are no pictures in the gallery of the biscuits.
There's no nalga conciousness allowed at Yardbird.
Other choices included the delicious Macaroni and Cheese, really killer as seen above. There were no regrets about the Fried Green Tomato BLT (fried green tomato with pork belly, greens, tomato jam and pimento cheese), but I don't think it will be on our short list for next time (whereas I can't imagine going back and skipping the biscuits). Something about the tomato jam just felt a bit to much like some spaghetti sauce thrown in there for good measure, when the fried green tomato itself was hitting the tomato and acid notes in all the well balanced ways. I'm no Jeff McInnis, but I was eyeing the hell out of the fried cheese on the salad next to me and that BLT sans jam, greens and pimento and plus slab o' fried cheese would sell me.
Maybe I should just order the fried cheese next time, and you can bet that there will be a next time. yardbird has quickly moved up the list of places I'm really rooting for in Miami, will recommend enthusiastically (right next to Gigi,
,
, Scotty's and the
). So
, to Yardbird, it's real nice.
