bienal de la habana, the havana biennial and jose parla
a biennial, in the art world, is a show that takes place every two years showcasing up and coming artists. Most notably, the Whitney Biennial in New York handpicks a showcase of on the rise painters, sculptures, sketchers and the scratch-your-head variety of contemporary art. The
Havana Biennial Art Exhibition
highlights mostly artists from third world and developing countries with a focus on Latin America and the Caribbean.
Here are a few selections from this year's exhibit:
brazilian carlito carvalhosa
francis jr and jose parla collaboration.
jose parla was born in miami to cuban parents, so one can imagine that this show has huge significance for him. even though he's shown in hong kong, london and lives full time in brooklyn, mad props to jose for repping the cuban-american spirit and making a reverse art migration from miami to cuba.
