andrea Finuccio's organic dog treat brand Papa Win's Homemade Dog Treats is available at local farmer's markets and clears up the age old mystery of what the heck is in dog food.

How did you wind up working on Papa Wins right out of college?
I graduated from college in May of 2011, and I decided to take some time off from school to just relax. I’ve always loved baking and cooking and once I got my rescue dog, I would often cook for him on special occasions or when he was sick.

Tell me a little about the name?
My rescue’s name is Win. I adopted him in May 2010 and he has been my world ever since. My boyfriend Javi and I spoil him a lot, so much so that my business is named after him. I got his name from the lead singer of Arcade Fire, Win Butler, and although everyone always gets his name wrong or thinks it’s funny it really does suit him well. I got the Papa part from my family. Everything in a Cuban family is nicknamed “mama” or “papa” depending on the gender, and once I brought Win home to Miami, he became Papa Win.

Why organic dog treats instead of organic people food? And why organic dog treats at all?
The backs of a dog food bags freak me out with the exhaustive list of ingredients and preservatives. I chose to make organic treats because dogs are by nature outdoor creatures and despite domestication they should have the closest of natural food that they can get.

Where are you selling them?
I sell my treats every Sunday at the Pinecrest Gardens Green Market and I hope to expand to some other markets soon. Also an event coming up that I will be at are the Sable Chase Animal Clinic’s Holiday party on December 3.

You can also go to our website papawins.com to see what we are up to, contact us for custom orders, and see our Etsy shop!

Have you seen anything else at the farmer's markets that you think everyone should know about?
That’s a hard one to answer! I love the raw vegan food by Lamoy and the gentleman that sells the 18 year old aged vinegars and oils. Another favorite is Sierra’s Sea Salts (also named after a dog) and the vegan treats they sell out of the booth as well. Also, if you want some long lasting plants this is the place to look because my bouquets from here seem to last 2 weeks longer than usual.
