you're generally in good hands when right past the door of a seafood joint are a whole bunch of barely dead fish. Garcia's, a seafood grill and fish market, most definitely meets that criteria; the fish just couldn't get any fresher.

On a weekday lunch hour at Garcia's you'll see Miami. An attractive couple in scrubs on break from the nearby Jackson/UM medical complex. A few cops. An old man in a guayabera at a table with a bunch of men in suits. And some dudes in shorts and flip flops.

For as much water as there is in Miami, restaurants like Garcia's are far and few between. It's a delicate balance of fish market, sans the fishy smell, indoor restaurant with beautifully worn black Spanish tiled floor, and outdoor spot with a mural along the wall. Garcia's may be a little schizophrenic in nature, rather it wears a couple hats, but it's crystal clear why it's been around long enough to become a real establishment- the food is good. It's not froufrou SoBe wannabee Miami food, it's fish caught by the boats tied up on the dock behind the restaurant, served simply, and deliciously.
