bacardi relaunches taino chief hatuey attack
hatuey is back. Bacardi is re-launching Cuba’s most successful beer as an amber craft ale. They had previously revived the brand, named after the famous Taino chief, in 1995. But instead of the pride of Cuban beer, we got a watery Natty Light type of thing with the Taino Cacique’s face slapped on it. Sales didn’t go well, and Hatuey has been off the market for about a year, until now.
The new logo is almost exactly how the original logo was in Cuba, and it is supposed to taste just like it used to. Bacardi partnered with Thomas Creek Brewery in Greenville, South Carolina for…. wait, what? South Carolina? That’s right, Hatuey, Cuba’s beer, la gran cerveza de Miami, is going to be manufactured and bottled in South Carolina. Don’t fret though, it will still be ours, and it should be here just in time to celebrate the 4th of July. American Independence with Cuban beer produced in South Carolina? That actually kind of makes sense…
