let the sun shine. a lot.
phew! Thank goodness Gwyneth Paltrow (that's right Gwyneth Paltrow) addressed the important issue of Vitamin D deficiency on her blog that usually talks about things as lame as... Vitamin D deficiency. Actually, reading GOOP is a guilty pleasure of mine, just in case I was wondering how to make vegetarian gluten-free lasagna or about Marty Scorsese's winter book list, I know I can always count on Gwyn's little blog.
Anyway, she shocked us again with a post about how she was prescribed by a doctor *gasp* to go get some sun like a real person, but apparently this is an issue that most Americans suffer from (but I'm suspecting lucky South Floridians are exempt from these stats):
"Studies show that as many as three out of four Americans suffer from Vitamin D deficiency. A study published in 2009 in the Archives of Internal Medicine (a leading scientific journal), found that 70% of Caucasians, 90% of Hispanics and 97% of African Americans in the US have insufficient blood levels of Vitamin D. Indeed, it’s thought to be the most common medical condition in the world, affecting over one billion people and we now have research showing just how essential Vitamin D is to health."
So go out and keep sunnin' Miamians.
